Driving School Tilia
A friendly driving school. With you for over 30 years.
Moving to Slovenia and need a category B licence? Avtošola Tilia has English-speaking driving instructors, an app in English for lessons and payments, and a clear step-by-step process. Here is exactly how it works for foreigners, students and expats in Ljubljana.
The Slovenian process is the same for everyone. What we add for English speakers is an instructor you can actually talk to and materials you can actually read.
The theory course is 24 school hours over six working days (Mon–Mon, 17:00–20:15), online via Zoom or in our classroom at Gerbičeva 44. It is taught in Slovenian; we give English speakers the English study materials and help in the app. Course details and dates.
A short examination at an occupational-medicine clinic (vision, hearing, general health), around 67–80 € in Ljubljana. Bring an ID and your glasses or lenses. Required before the theory exam and before lessons.
Run by the Slovenian Red Cross (10 school hours + exam, 113,69 € nationwide). Register at prva-pomoc.si. Required before the practical driving exam. More about first aid.
Booked at Upravna enota Ljubljana (Tobačna ulica 5), fee 42,10 € for the first attempt. Passing the theory exam is a legal requirement before your first driving lesson.
Minimum 20 lessons by law; most candidates need 30–35. In the app you pick your instructor — those who speak English are marked — and see their current waiting time. Lessons are arranged directly with the instructor and start at a location that suits you where reasonable. Pay per lesson or with a package, by card or with a QR bank slip, in the app.
Taken at the exam centre on Cesta dveh cesarjev with an examiner from the Traffic Safety Agency; fee 37,50 € per attempt. Your instructor sits in the car; you drive independently for about 50 minutes. Pass, and you get a temporary licence at the administrative unit the same day.
Includes the CPP course, enrolment and record card (949 € for non-students). Single lesson 46,90 € manual / 49,90 € automatic. Up to 3 instalments, no interest. Full price list.
Lessons driven and paid, instructor choice, card and QR payments, CPP practice tests, handbook and an AI tutor — with an English interface. Register with the same e-mail you used to enrol.
Holders of a foreign licence may need only a few refresher lessons and the practical exam. We handle that too — see exchanging a foreign licence.
The lectures are held in Slovenian. English-speaking candidates get English study materials and support through the app and our instructors; many pass the theory exam this way. Contact us before enrolling and we will tell you honestly what to expect at your level of Slovenian.
Exam languages are set by the state (Traffic Safety Agency and the administrative unit), not by the driving school. Ask us and we will check the current options for your situation before you pay anything.
To be issued a Slovenian licence you need registered residence in Slovenia. Enrolling in the course is possible before that, but plan the paperwork early.
Typically 3–6 months from enrolment to licence if you drive regularly and pass exams on the first try.
Both are available. An exam on an automatic gives a licence limited to automatics (code 78); on a manual, you may drive both.
Write to us in English — we reply within one working day and tell you exactly which step comes next in your case.
