Driving School Tilia · For Parents

A driving school for your child. Safe, clear and without unnecessary stress.

A driving licence is your child's first major independent step, and the decision about which driving school to choose is often made by parents. Here we clearly explain how Driving School Tilia in Ljubljana ensures safety, progress, patient instructors and a fair process from the CPP course to the main driving test.

We understand your role

Parents often choose the driving school. And it's right that you have clear information.

At 16 or 17, you often arrange enrolment in a driving school: you find a suitable driving school, check prices, pay for a package and listen at home to impressions after each driving lesson. While your child is mainly thinking about freedom and independence, you're thinking about safety, a patient instructor, the process and the real cost of a driving licence.

Driving School Tilia in Ljubljana has been operating since 1993. In more than three decades, we have helped over 15,000 candidates, including many young drivers brought to us by their parents. We have prepared this page for you, because when choosing a driving school you deserve clear answers, not empty promises.

Our principle

What safety means at Driving School Tilia.

1

Calm instructors

No shouting, no mocking, no nervousness. A mistake is part of learning and that's how we treat it: calmly, clearly and with re-explanation.

2

Gradual learning

First the training ground and quiet streets, only then heavier traffic and the motorway. The candidate moves to a new level when they are ready for it.

3

Only vehicles with a 5* NCAP rating

Not only are all vehicles equipped with dual pedals - with every vehicle purchase we ensure maximum safety and invest only in vehicles that have the best NCAP safety rating - 5 stars.

4

Clear system

Each lesson has its own purpose and goal. The candidate can track important information and progress in our app, and the office is available to parents for additional clarification.

Our guarantee

If it doesn't work out with the instructor, we'll change them.

Learning to drive is a relationship. Even an excellent instructor is not necessarily the right choice for every candidate and that's not taboo with us. If your child doesn't get on with the instructor, we find a solution and change them for another if necessary. This is part of our satisfaction guarantee, because a candidate learns best when they feel safe, heard and relaxed enough to make mistakes.

What they say

What candidates say about our driving school.

★★★★★

I came to instructor Vahid from another driving school with many hours and too little knowledge. I have no words to describe how grateful I am to Vahid and his dedication to his work and attitude towards candidates. We drove only a few hours and went to the test, which I also passed. He gave me motivation, many encouraging words and knowledge.

Instructor Luka taught me road rules and technique well. When I didn't know something, he reacted calmly and explained my mistake. He was also generally friendly. I recommend this choice for those who decide on Driving School Tilia.

I passed first time. Instructor David says I had a very difficult route, although it didn't seem so to me, which just shows how well he prepared me for the test. I had a very nice experience, I drove in a relaxed environment. I recommend it.

An advantage that's overlooked

Start at 16: accompanied driving.

Few parents know that a child can complete the CPP course and theory test at sixteen, then drive with you as an accompanying driver until they come of age. This is one of the best paths to more experience before independent driving, as the candidate gains not only the minimum number of hours, but also additional kilometres in real traffic.

You're not alone in this. Our instructors prepare the candidate for safe driving, and explain to you how you can build on home driving calmly, gradually and without bad habits. Read more about the process on the accompanied driving page.

Path to the test

Four steps from CPP course to main driving test.

1

Enrolment and CPP course

We arrange enrolment and the candidate starts with the CPP course. It's possible to start at 16.

2

Theory test

Preparation takes place with the CPP course, free CPP tests and materials, followed by the theory test.

3

Driving lessons

Driving takes place gradually, with clear goals and an instructor who guides the candidate through real traffic situations.

4

Main driving test

The candidate takes the main driving test when they are ready, calm and independent enough for the test.

And money, without beating around the bush: the legal minimum is 20 driving hours, but in practice many candidates need more. Our packages include the CPP course, enrolment fee and record card, so you can see in advance what's included. You'll find exact amounts on the driving school price list, and for the total cost of a driving licence you can also use our car test cost calculator.

Parents' questions

What parents most often ask us.

How much does a driving licence cost for our child?
Packages with 20, 30 or 40 driving hours include the CPP course, enrolment fee and record card. Add to this external costs such as medical examination, first aid and fees for the theory and practical tests. You'll find exact amounts on the price list, but we're also happy to explain them to you by phone.
How many driving hours will they need?
The legal minimum is 20 hours, but many candidates in practice need more. This depends on prior knowledge, confidence, regularity of driving and readiness for independent driving. We'd rather explain the realistic picture to you in advance than have surprises later.
Can we monitor our child's progress?
The candidate has an overview of important information and progress in our app. We can explain the process, approximate course and next steps to parents in the office or by phone if you have questions.
What if our child doesn't get on with the instructor?
If the candidate doesn't get on with the instructor, we find a solution and change them if necessary. This is part of our satisfaction guarantee. A good relationship between candidate and instructor is an important condition for calm and effective driving instruction.
Are the vehicles safe?
All training vehicles have dual controls, the instructor can brake and intervene at any time. Vehicles are regularly serviced and maintained.
When should our child start?
They can complete the CPP course and theory test at 16, then gain experience with you through accompanied driving until 18. For many young people this is a very good path, because before independent driving they gain more kilometres and more real traffic situations.
